Social Media and Work

February 14, 2013 — 5 Comments

Social media is now a part of our everyday lives. We talk to our friends and family via Facebook and we tweet about things we like and don’t like on Twitter.

We live in a different world now. The Internet gives us the opportunity to connect with people in ways that were not possible even a few years ago.

One of the best ways to connect with people online is through social media.

But what does the internet, connecting with people, and social media have to do work?

Relationships are your most important asset when it comes to work. This is true whether you are an employee working for someone else, or entrepreneur working for yourself.

Social media is designed to make it quick and easy to connect with others.

So if you are not using social media, you are missing out on opportunities online.

My favorite social media site is Twitter. Twitter is a great place to connect with people online.

Want to give it a try? Check out The Beginner’s Guide to Twitter by Michael Hyatt. It is a blog post, so it is free. It will give you all the information you need to get started.

Happy tweeting!

Question: What is your favorite social media site?

I like Facebook and Twitter equally. The last Toastmasters group I attended one person talked about Pinterest, he shared some interesting facts/stats about it. I plan on starting a profile and capitalizing on it.

I am just getting into Google+ … it is actually a lot more straightforward than Facebook. The people who use it are really dedicated to it, have made some good connections there.

WOW, I did not know that. I’m still learning about Google+ and just today singed up for a Pinterest account. Still learning how to use both to grow my platform.

My go-to is Twitter. However, with the amount I write about work and career transition I’ve found LinkedIn really helpful. Pinterest is one I can’t seem to get into…
